Every year, the question of whether or not to celebrate Halloween shows up on social media and in conversations among Christians. This topic appears as Christian parents struggle with determining whether they should or shouldn't celebrate Halloween. There is no straight answer according to some, while others believe there is an easy answer. No matter where you fall on this subject, I wanted to address what our choices about Halloween are teaching our children.

God’s word is Truth. If we are to follow Christ and become more like him, then we are to follow and obey the Truth of His Word. Within His Word, you will find many truths, one of which is a warning against false teaching. 1 John 4:1-6 is a dense portion of John's writing that details how the church was to identify and safeguard themselves from false teaching and false teachers. Today I'll give a brief history of some false teaching within the history of the Christian church and current iterations, beliefs, and statements that reflect contemporary false teaching. We will look at Antinomism, Adoptionism, and Marcionism, and see how these false teachings are relevant in today’s churches.

This week we have introduced why Federal Vision is a big deal, reviewed some of the history, and proponents of Federal Vision theology, and provided a list of resources from various Reformed denominations reviewing, rejecting, and responding to Federal Vision. In this section, I’ll briefly provide a synopsis of the gross errors of Federal Vision theology.

In our family, we’ve experienced what it’s like in our own sin to stir fear and lob accusations toward brothers and sisters in Christ. Federal Vision legitimately is an enemy of Christian fellowship. Our aim is to encourage and equip families to live out the truths of Biblical Christianity within their local context. On this topic of Federal Vision, the church, across multiple denominational lines, from varied reformed traditions, has spoken clearly, and with biblical warrant against this false teaching. This is not a “hobby horse” personal agenda or topic of special obsession for us at Redeeming Family.

One of the serious ancient threats to the church was false teaching. Amidst all the other very real threats to early Christians (such as persecution from Roman government officials, Jewish leaders, poverty, food shortages, geographically dispersed, racial tension, distinct cultural values, spiritual uncertainty and language differences) the propagation of misinformation was most grave.
